Feeling Safe in the Office Space
According to a recent survey from the consulting firm PwC, "Executives and employees [are] converging around a post-pandemic future with a lot more flexibility, yet few are prepared to completely abandon the office space.” A similar survey found that roughly half of its respondents plan to continue a work-from-home model until the second half of this year. At that point, new policies would be implemented, many supporting a “hybrid” solution. Some corporations already have their employees back in the office. Your situation likely depends on your industry, your department and your employer’s capability to enforce these new policies safely and effectively. As Covid case numbers continue to drop and vaccines are distributed to the most at risk, it is safe to assume we’ll be heading back to the office (one way or another) in the near future.
We often talk about “when things return to normal,” yet for many, it will be over 1 year of working from home. I’m guessing working in your slippers has become pretty normal to many at this point. Although most of us miss the in-person interactions, this transition will inevitably be met with some challenges. One of the biggest hurdles employers will face is ensuring that their employees feel safe upon returning to the office. This priority is particularly difficult because of it’s immeasurability (unless you’re a mind reader). For many, comfort and feeling safe will come in time as we adjust to the new routine. However, there are steps employers can take to help these transitions be as seamless as possible for their employees.
Of course, there are the standard safety measures we all know: wear a mask, practice social distancing and wash your hands. No, we’re not selling you a mask right now (just kidding, we totally will- give me a call if you need some). By now, you probably have masks that match your socks, ones for colder or warmer days, one that says something funny, one that’s your favorite… maybe we sold you a few! However, there are products beyond those masks we’ve come to know so well, which will help keep your employees feeling safe, considered, and appreciated when coming back to an office setting.
