Events Are BACK… Are You Ready?

There is still an understandable level of hesitancy as gatherings and events return. Not only on an individual level, but on a corporate level, as well. No one wants to be labeled as the company who threw a superspreader event. That being said, as covid cases continue to decline, people are feeling increasingly excited about the prospect of an eventful Summer. Many organizations are starting to put their picnics, golf tournaments, 5Ks, etc. back on the calendar. Even if these events are months away, it’s a good idea to start the planning process now. Here’s why…

1.)    Securing Inventory and Pricing: Our suppliers, like many these days, continue to grapple with supply chain management challenges.  Due to the disruption in supply and demand brought on by Covid-19, it’s currently not uncommon to run into inventory holes. As more events take place, the demand will further increase, and inventory could become a larger challenge than it already is. Additionally, due to the increased cost in raw materials, higher exchange rates, tariffs and transportation/ logistics costs, prices will soon increase. When? How much? For how long? Unclear.

2.)    Minimize Production Time: As the public becomes more comfortable attending these kinds of gatherings, more organizations will be inclined to add events back to their calendars. This will result in an uptick in orders, leading to longer production schedules (sort of like around the holiday season). Getting ahead of that rush will keep your orders at a standard lead time.

3.)    Proactive & Bright > Reactive & Blah: Allow extra time for creativity. Often, companies have their event calendars for the new year planned out before Thanksgiving. Even with that amount of time to plan, things still can fall through the cracks, leading to reactive, rush needs. We’re in a unique situation this year, where events may be tentatively set or added last minute. Even if events aren’t officially back on the calendar yet, it’s safe to assume they will be in the near future. Starting to think about your merchandise needs now will allow for extra time to get creative with messaging, design, or the product selection in general.
